2019 Ram HD: FCA Unveils the New Generation of its Toughest Pickup

While the newest generation of the Ram 1500 is already very popular in our country, FCA has just unveiled the Heavy Duty version of its full-size pickup truck at the Detroit Auto Show.

The 2019 Ram 2500 and 3500 HD will be equipped as standard with the 6.4-litre HEMI V8 that develops 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. It works on conjunction with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

However, the more interesting choice is definitely the Cummins 6.7-litre turbo-diesel six-cylinder engine. In addition to producing 400 horsepower, it can flaunt a torque rating of 1,000 pound-feet. It’s matched to a six-speed automatic transmission.

A tamer version of this diesel engine is also offered, rated at 370 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque, managed by a different automatic transmission than the one associated with the more powerful Cummins mill.

As for the 2019 Ram HD’s capacities, the new pickup can tow up to 35,100 lbs. (15,921 kg) and carry a maximum load of 7,680 lbs. (3,484 kg) in its bed.

Compared to the previous-generation truck, overall weight has been reduced by as much as 143 pounds (65 kg) thanks to lighter materials used notably for the hood and powertrain.

The infotainment system, named Uconnect by FCA, is linked to a touchscreen with a size of up to 12 inches in diameter.

The Ram HD will be built in Saltillo, Mexico, but its on-sale date and pricing haven’t yet been announced.

A New Power Wagon

The Power Wagon variant of the Ram 2500 will still be offered. This robust pickup truck is equipped with a jacked-up suspension, front and rear locking differentials, a disconnecting sway bar, a 12,000-lb. (5,443-kg) winch and a 360-degree camera system.
