All-New 2020 Mazda CX-30 Makes World Debut and We Want it Here Fast!

Last month, Mazda promised to expand its SUV and crossover lineup with a world premiere at the 2019 Geneva Auto Show. So here comes the all-new 2020 Mazda CX-30—naturally dressed in Soul Red Crystal Metallic—which becomes the second member of the new generation of Mazda vehicles after the redesigned 2019 Mazda3.

Described as a new core model, the CX-30 slots between the diminutive (too small for some) CX-3 and the popular CX-5. It embodies the latest evolution of Mazda’s KODO design language, with a particularly sexy hoodline and rear section, while adding sizable cladding around the wheel arches for an extra dose of ruggedness. Inside, the company did not provide much information other than promising a cabin that comfortably seats four adults.

We hear that performance attributes such as acceleration, turning and braking have been dramatically enhanced to further cement Mazda as a fun-to-drive car brand. In most cases, customers will be able to choose between a 2.0-litre SKYACTIV-G engine with cylinder deactivation technology and the much-lauded new SKYACTIV-X mill that improves fuel economy by approximately 25 percent thanks to gasoline compression ignition. Six-speed manual and automatic transmissions will be available along with i-ACTIV AWD technology and G-Vectoring Control.

According to other reports, the new Mazda CX-30 will also offer a driver alert system to combat drowsiness and inattention behind the wheel, plus a Traffic Support feature reducing driver fatigue during rush hour.

The Mazda CX-30 will be rolled out to global markets, with sales starting from Europe this summer. Canada has yet to be confirmed, but there’s a good chance we’ll see it on our roads sooner rather than later. Of course, you’ll be among the first to get the memo.
