2020 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 Presented at the New York Auto Show
The AMG GLC 63 S 4MATIC+ was introduced for the 2018 model year, and it’s already getting a host of improvements for 2020.
Presented at the New York Auto Show alongside the redesigned, 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS and the Mercedes-AMG CLA 35, the GLC 63 keeps the same powertrain that helped it achieve a record lap time on the Nordschleife portion of Germany’s famous Nurburgring circuit. It consists of a twin-turbocharged, 4.0-litre V8 engine that develops 503 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, a nine-speed automatic transmission and 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive.

While the GLC 63—still offered in SUV and Coupe body styles—boasts redesigned headlights and taillights with new LED accenting, in addition to more optional 21-inch wheel choices and a new paint colour, the vehicle’s design is unchanged.
The big change is actually found inside, as the old, unloved COMAND infotainment system is replaced by the company’s new MBUX interface, which also offers a powerful voice and gesture recognition system as well as a 10.25-inch touchscreen. The driver gets a new steering wheel and a fully digital, 12.3-inch instrument panel. MBUX also includes the AMG TRACK PACE feature that records data and performance figures on a closed circuit.
Equally new is the AMG DYNAMICS system with four modes (Base, Advanced, Pro and Master) that works in conjunction with the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive system (with Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus, Individual settings) and tweaks the electronic stability program to enhance ride and handling.
The 2020 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S 4MATIC+ should go on sale this fall. Pricing is not yet available, but the 2019 GLC 63 SUV started at $90,500 before freight and delivery charges, while the GLC 63 S Coupe retailed from $92,300.
