The Electric Circuit Raises its Fast-charging Rate in Quebec
In an effort to accelerate the deployment of new fast-charging stations for electric cars, Hydro-Quebec says it will apply a new hourly rate at Electric Circuit stations beginning June 12.
As a result, owners who plug their electric car into a 400-volt fast-charging station will pay $11.50 per hour—including taxes and billed by the minute—instead of $10.
For example, using 400 volts for 20 minutes will cost $3.83. A 30-minute fast charge will cost $5.75.
Starting on January 1, 2020, this rate will be revised annually to reflect inflation.
As for 240-volt charging stations, there won’t be any changes. The price is either at a flat fee of $2,50, regardless of the length of charge, or at an hourly rate of $1 billed by the minute.
Also, curbside charging in Montreal will still cost $1 per hour.
In order to get information on the rate at each charging station, users are invited to check out the mobile app for iOS and Android or the Electric Circuit website. The rate is also displayed on the screen at each station.
In case you forgot, the Electric Circuit is the largest public charging network in Quebec and Eastern Ontario. Hydro-Quebec says that fast-charging will continue to be offered at $17 per hour in Ontario, while the price at 240-volt charging stations is either at a flat fee of $4, regardless of the length of charge, or at an hourly rate of $2 billed by the minute.
