2020 Ford Super Duty Launched with Tremor Off-Road Package

Published on June 27, 2019 in New Models by Guillaume Rivard

How can Ford make its Super Duty trucks even better? The new-for-2020 Tremor Off-Road Package is definitely one way, pushing the limits of off-road capability with new hardware and technology to handle rough terrain and heavy-duty work.

Quite simply, it’s the most capable off-road Super Duty ever. We’re also told that it provides greater towing and payload than the Ram Power Wagon, although the exact figures remain unspecified at this spoint.

“A growing number of Super Duty customers use their trucks for more than work. They’re fishing, camping and towing boats on weekends and they go off-road, so we designed this truck specifically for them—more ground clearance, bigger shocks, bigger tires and more off-road capability,” said Todd Eckert, Ford truck group marketing manager. “Tremor balances what customers demand in terms of work with what they need in the great outdoors.”

Available for XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum F-250 and F-350 Super Duty models equipped with the all-new 7.3-litre gasoline V8 or the 6.7-litre Power Stroke turbo-diesel, the Tremor Off-Road Package can be specified for 4x4 single-rear-wheel SuperCrew trucks with a 6.75-foot box. F-250 models also require the high-capacity trailer tow package.

The list of upgrades starts with aggressive 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires—the largest available on a heavy-duty pickup—mounted on a set of unique 18-inch matte black wheels. These tires, combined with a two-inch front-end lift and shorter air dam, result in a ground clearance of 10.8 inches, best-in-class water fording of 33 inches and the best approach and departure angles of any Super Duty ever at 31.65 degrees and 24.51 degrees, respectively.

The Tremor Off-Road Package also includes progressive-rate springs, a custom-tuned rear stabilizer bar, unique 1.7-inch piston twin-tube dampers, a new Dana limited-slip front differential, off-road running boards, extended-axle vent tubes and the same beefy skid plates found on FX4 models.

The new rock-crawl mode is optimized to operate in 4x4 low and is enabled by the standard TorqShift 10-speed automatic transmission. And for the first time ever, the Super Duty gets Trail Control, a feature that debuted on the F-150 Raptor and Ranger as a cruise control system for off-road driving.

The 2020 Ford Super Duty with the available Tremor Off-Road Package will go on sale in Canada later this year. The company didn’t mention anything about the price, though.
