2020 Subaru WRX and WRX STI Get Minor Updates

Published on August 30, 2019 in News by Guillaume Rivard

We’re anxiously waiting for the next generation of the Subaru WRX and WRX STI built on the new Subaru Global Platform and featuring a fresh new design. In the meantime, the wild twins are returning for 2020 with minor changes and tweaks to maintain interest among fans and potential customers.

Both will arrive at dealerships across Canada during the month of September.

The 2020 Subaru WRX continues to rely on a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine producing 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, either via a six-speed manual transmission or a continously variable automatic—called Sport Lineartronic. The all-wheel drivetrain includes active torque vectoring, while Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-DRIVE), available on Sport Lineartronic variants, lets drivers fine-tune the WRX’s power and performance on the fly.

New for 2020, all models benefit from an updated R167 rear differential. EyeSight is also standard on all WRX models equipped with a Sport Lineartronic transmission, including Assist Monitor and Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Vehicle Hold (AVH). The top-line Sport-tech RS model enhances performance through a new Brembo high-performance brake system with red-painted four-piston front calipers and two-piston rear calipers.

Inside, the only notable change is the addition of red accent stitching on the doors of WRX and Sport trims.

Meanwhile, the 2020 Subaru WRX STI receives new exterior styling enhancements and select trims get redesigned alloy wheels. The turbocharged 2.5-litre engine is still mated to a close-ratio six-speed manual gearbox exclusively. Power and torque amount to 310 horsepower and 290 pound-feet, respectively.

Another good news is that the base price of the WRX stays put at $29,995. The increase for higher trim levels ranges from $100 to $1,400, culminating with the WRX Sport-tech RS at $39,695.

The WRX STI now starts at $40,295 and reaches $47,395 in Sport-tech trim, whether equipped with the large wing spoiler or the smaller trunk-lid spoiler. These prices are up $100 from the 2019 models.
