Announced late last year, FCA has an investment program of more than $7 billion for Italy through 2021 and that includes electrified versions of 12 new or existing models.

Maserati, which will no longer be able to count on Ferrari for its engines, is obviously part of the plan and we now have more details about the brand’s future portfolio.

With regards to production, Maserati announced plans for its lineup of new and electrified models at Modena, Cassino and Turin. In other words, all of Maserati’s new models will be 100 percent made in Italy and will adopt hybrid and battery electric propulsion systems.

The company promises to combine the traditional Maserati driving dynamics with next-generation battery technology, extended range and ultra-fast charging capabilities.

In 2020, the Maserati Ghibli, built in Turin, will become the first hybrid for the brand. After that, we’ll see the first all-electric Maserati, namely the anticipated Alfieri sports car. Built in Modena, where major production line upgrades are underway, it will also be available in hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants. The timing has yet to be specified, though.

Next up will be a new Maserati utility vehicle (smaller than the Levante), set to be built at Cassino and destined to play a leading role for the brand thanks to its innovative technologies. The first pre-series units are expected to roll off the line by 2021.

The Maserati GranTurismo and GranCabrio will be electrified and produced in Turin, where FCA is investing over $1 billion in plant upgrades.

What’s more, all new Maserati vehicles including the updated current models will offer a range of autonomous driving capabilities, starting with Level 2 highway assist progressing to Level 3 with hands-off offering close to full autonomy, having the ability to maneuver in and out of lanes or bring the vehicle to a safe stop at the side of the road if the driver is unable to take control of the vehicle.

Finally, Maserati is developing an entirely new customization program for owners seeking a one-of-a-kind level of exclusivity. A dedicated customization workshop will be created within the Modena plant.
