This SEMA-bound Hyundai Veloster is an Off-road Beast

What do you get when you cross Hyundai’s sporty little coupe with a dedicated off-roader? The answer is the Veloster Grappler concept, which will be officially unveiled at the 2019 SEMA Show in Las Vegas early next month.

Based on a standard Veloster, the Grappler boasts increased ground clearance and superb approach and departure angles to overcome uneven terrain and large obstacles. Of course, the oversized all-terrain tires on rally-themed Method Racing wheels help a lot, too.

Custom front and rear brush guards were installed for extra protection off the beaten paths, while additional sets of lights are mounted up front and on the roof to increase visibility in the woods or at night.

Speaking of the roof, surely you have noticed the big Thule utility basket carrying the spare tire (that’s right, there wasn’t enough place to put it under the car like a regular spare). Interestingly, the basket also serves as a base mount for the removable solar panel that feeds an all-electric portable power station mounted inside the cabin for remote journeys.

As for the body, the custom vinyl wrap features a ghosted Hyundai-themed livery and the Seibon carbon fibre hood effectively vents excess engine bay heat.

Inside the Veloster Grappler concept, an integrated roll bar provides occupant protection, while the list of adventure and emergency gear includes traction mats, an oversized utility shovel, a roadside assistance kit, a first aid kit and an outdoor dome tent. The premium Recaro seats are finished in a vintage houndstooth check pattern.

This all looks very exciting. When can we take it for a spin, Hyundai?
