Volkswagen Teases Canada-bound Electric Crossover Yet Again
Volkswagen is giving us our best look yet at the production version of its future electric crossover, which will be introduced next year and sold in Canada starting in early 2021, as company spokesman Thomas Tetzlaff confirmed to Automotive News Canada.
During an event in China, the German automaker showcased its entire lineup of electric concepts, plus the recently launched Volkswagen ID. 3 hatchback and a camouflaged crossover.

The latter, which is expected to be called ID. 4, has evolved to adopt a more conventional shape than the ID. Crozz concept it’s based on while still looking sportier than the current Tiguan SUV.
Despite the wild, purple-and-yellow stripes, we can see a few design cues borrowed from the smaller, Golf-sized ID. 3, although the wheels, lower front fascia and taillights—just to name a few—are different.
The two ride on Volkswagen’s MEB platform, of course. The utility model is expected to be powered by a larger, 83-kWh battery offering a range of more than 400 kilometres.
Some have reported that the ID. 4 will be available in both standard SUV and four-door SUV coupe configurations—similar to the Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport pairing. We have yet to receive a confirmation on that, however.
Production will begin in late 2020. By 2022, it will take place at Volkswagen’s U.S. assembly plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Stay tuned for additional details and pictures.
