2020 Fiat 500X Lineup Bolstered with a New Sport Model
The Fiat 500 may be on its way out of North America, but FCA is not done yet with the 500X sub-compact crossover.
Following the addition of a 1.3-litre turbo engine and other features for 2019, plus a lifestyle-oriented Urbana Edition earlier this year, the company is announcing a new Fiat 500X Sport model for 2020.
“Our Italian-designed, fun-to-drive Fiat 500X is the only vehicle in its class to feature standard all-wheel drive and achieve 7.9L/100km,” said Tim Kuniskis, FCA’s head of passenger car brands in North America. “With standard turbo power, the Fiat 500X Sport is a fresh, new alternative in one of the fastest growing segments in the industry.”
The 500X Sport visually stands out with an available new “Rovente Red” exterior (can be combined with a new black roof option), unique front and rear fascias and body-coloured side mouldings along with a “Sport” badge displayed on the front fender. Available LED lighting systems, chrome dual-exhaust tips and dark-finish exterior accents on mirror caps, door handles and the rear license plate brow further define its appearance.
New 18-inch aluminum wheels come standard and, for the first time on any 500X model, an all-new 19-inch premium aluminum wheel with Michelin CrossClimate all-season tires is available.
The interior sports exclusive Sport seats in black fabric with vinyl inserts, a dark-finished headliner and pillars along with new interior door and console bezel surface finishes. Red stitching and Alcantara inserts adorn the steering wheel. Furthermore, a new Alcantara-covered cluster brow and new cluster graphics and instrument-panel bezel finish appear in front of the driver. New Sport floor mats also come standard.
The 500X Sport features the latest-generation Uconnect 4 infotainment system, a seven-inch touchscreen, SiriusXM Radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, which all come standard along with available satellite navigation and Beats premium audio.
There are no changes to the turbocharged engine, which produces 177 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque through a nine-speed automatic transmission and a standard all-wheel-drive system.
Admittedly more expensive than direct rivals such as the Hyundai Kona, Mazda CX-3 and Jeep Renagade (the latter featuring the same engine), the 2020 Fiat 500X Sport is priced from $33,495 and will go on sale in the first quarter of 2020.
