New KTM X-BOW GTX is a 600-hp Missile

Austrian manufacturer KTM is better known for its wide range of motorcycles, but over a decade ago it also developed a spectacular roadster called X-BOW that impresses as much with its radical looks as it does with its crazy specs. A GT4 race variant was even created in 2015.

Five years later, KTM is back with a new evolution, the X-BOW GTX, and this one is designed to compete in GT2 series across Europe beginning in the fall.

Race promoter SRO Motorsports allows cars that meet the GT2 technical standards to compete not only on the old continent, but also in the U.S. and Asia.

Few details are available at this point. However, we know that Bavarian-based Reiter Engineering (already involved in the development of Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 race cars) was once again tasked with developing the ultra-lightweight structure. Overall, the car tips the scales at around 1,000 kilograms only.

As you can see on the pictures, aerodynamics are pushed to the extreme from the front splitter to the numerous air ducts all the way to the giant rear wing. Inside, a fully integrated and homologated roll cage protects the cockpit.

Meanwhile, the engine is a turbocharged 2.5-litre five-cylinder TFSI from Audi—the same found in the TT RS and RS 3, only with more than 600 horsepower on tap instead of 394. Another version with a power output of around 500 horsepower should be eligible to compete in various racing series governed by GT regulations.

KTM is also planning a one-make Cup series with the X-BOW GTX from 2021.
