Fancy Your Fingerprint on the Hood of a Porsche?
Have you ever heard about Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur? This small workshop in Zuffenhausen, Germany, is where 30 highly skilled workers and craftspeople spend all of their time creating very personal Porsche cars to meet the desires and requests of customers.
The latest option to be offered is far from ordinary. If you wish, you can have your fingerprint reproduced on the hood of a 911. Talk about a unique way to add racing stripes to a car!

“Individuality is very important for Porsche customers. And no design can be more personal than your own fingerprint,” says Alexander Fabig, Vice President, Individualization and Classic.
How does it work? The service is available through Porsche dealers, which establish contact with the customer consultants at the Exclusive Manufaktur. These consultants discuss the entire process with the customer, from submission of the fingerprint to completion of the vehicle.
The innovative direct printing method (software and hardware as well as the associated painting and manufacturing process) was completely developed in-house. Porsche explains the operating principle is similar to that of an inkjet printer: using a print head, the paint is applied to three-dimensional components automatically and without overspray thanks to individually controlled nozzles.
After the robot paints the unique design, a clear coat is applied and the hood is then polished to a high-gloss finish. All of these steps are done with the body panel removed from the car, by the way.
In terms of look and feel, the new technology is clearly superior to any film application, Porsche claims.
The service costs 7,500 euros in Germany and will be provided by the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur on request starting in March. Details and pricing for the Canadian market have not been announced yet. Initially, only fingerprint reproduction will be offered. In the medium term, however, other customer-specific designs will become available.
