Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton Auto Shows All Hit by COVID-19

After the Geneva Auto Show was cancelled at the beginning of the month and the New York Auto Show was pushed from April to August in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was inevitable that more events would be affected.

The Calgary Auto and Truck Show closed this past weekend, while the Vancouver (late March) and Edmonton (mid-April) auto shows have been postponed to a later date. When exactly? That remains to be determined.

In the case of the Vancouver Auto Show, which was due to celebrate its 100th anniversary, preparation started years ago and some unique attractions were planned including private cars and collections that have never been displayed before.

This is also when AJAC was supposed to crown the 2020 Canadian Green Car and Green Utility Vehicle of the Year. We can now expect a virtual announcement only.

Speaking of which, a certain number of car companies will likely opt to unveil their new models online, although Cadillac (Lyriq) and Ford (2021 Bronco) have both said they will postpone their upcoming events.

So, what’s next? We already knew the Beijing Auto Show (mid-April) would be postponed. It’s too early for now to discuss the fate of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, which is supposed to run from June 7-20.
