2021 Chevrolet Traverse Revised With Just Enough Changes

UPDATE (04/10/2020)--Due to COVID-19, Chevrolet has postponed changes to the Traverse until the 2022 model year. Below is the original article.

While the larger Tahoe and Suburban have received a full makeover for 2021, the Chevrolet Traverse has only reached the midpoint of its current generation, introduced for 2018. The company therefore has made a few cosmetic revisions and equipment changes.

Instead of adopting a Silverado-like front fascia, Chevy’s three-row midsize SUV sports thinner headlights and a redesigned grille with a more unified look. The lower front bumper and foglight housings have been updated, as well. The top-of-the-line High Country model also offers bronze accents.

Four new wheel designs add a different touch to the sides, while in the rear the LED taillights feature a fresh appearance with a sleek “X” pattern.

Inside, designers have not made a single modification to the layout. There are, however, new seating options and a new power sunshade for the available dual-pane SkyScape roof. An eight-inch digital display behind the steering wheel can be specified. Same thing for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

Meanwhile, safety content has been updated to include more standard features such as Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking and Lane Keep Assist.

Unsurprisingly, the 3.6-litre V6 engine returns with 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. Mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission, it can tow as much as 5,000 pounds. No other powertrain is available, by the way. And once again, AWD is optional on LS and LT models, but standard on every other model.

The 2021 Chevrolet Traverse will go on sale this fall. Prices have yet to be announced, though they should be awfully similar to the 2020 MSRPs (starting at $36,098).
