Mini Confirms Coupe, Speedster Models

Published on September 5, 2009 in Frankfurt by Dan Fritter

Mini is looking to expand their product line, and they haven’t put any effort into hiding that fact. For years now, rumours of Mini’s intention to produce a 4x4 crossover follow up to the Mini Moke has circulated.

But no one saw this coming. Called the Mini Coupe, this new concept takes the sporting character of the Mini Cooper S to a new level. With a lower half that resembles the R56 John Cooper Works lineup, the top half has been significantly revised with a seriously raked windshield and sporting roofline. Inside, the Coupe ditches the tiny rear seats in favour of what looks to be a substantially revised trunk space. Intended to celebrate the brand’s 50th anniversary, the interior is largely stock, but with what looks to be some nice accoutrements and trim options.

Initially shown as a concept, BMW announced their production plans a week later, and have even come clean about their intention of building a drop-top Speedster version of the vehicle. All details will be revealed in Frankfurt.
