The 1,200-hp Hennessey Corvette Sounds Wicked

Last December, the renowned tuning experts at Hennessey announced their plan to turn the new, mid-engine 2020 Chevrolet Corvette into a 1,200-horsepower beast, just like they did a short while earlier with the Camaro.

First of all, remember that the stock Corvette Stingray comes out of the factory with a naturally aspirated 6.2-litre LT2 V8 that cranks out 495 horsepower. Hennessey reworked the engine with upgraded internals including forged aluminum pistons (10.0:1 compression ratio) and forged steel connecting rods while also incorporating an upgraded and fortified dual-clutch transmission. More importantly, they fitted a pair of specially designed turbochargers.

As a result, they’ve created the world’s first twin-turbo eighth-generation (C8) Corvette. That’s right: Hennessey pulled it off even before Chevrolet could launch the next Corvette Z06, which might feature a twin-turbo engine of its own according to some rumours.

So, what does a 1,200-horsepower C8 Corvette sound like? Turn up the volume and watch this:

The Texas-based company also plans to offer its signature CarbonAero carbon fibre body upgrades including front splitter and airdam and rear wing, a full Brembo brake system upgrade, an adjustable Penske suspension as well as wheel and tire upgrades.

For more reasonable customers, Hennessey will initially offer a stainless-steel exhaust system upgrade for improved sound and a slight power increase, plus a supercharger system upgrade for up to 700 horsepower (once computer tuning becomes available for the new C8 engine platform).

Many other track-tested parts and upgrades will be available starting this year, as well.
