COVID-19: 2020 Detroit Auto Show Now Set for June... 2021

More than two months before the 2020 North American International Auto Show (June 7-20) was supposed to kick off, we’ve learned the event has been cancelled.

For the first time ever, one of the longest running auto shows in the world moved from January to late spring to hopefully attract more automakers and visitors. Now, we’ll have to wait until June 2021 to see if this new formula is a good one.

Just like the Javits Center in New York, the TCF Center in Detroit will be used as a makeshift hospital for COVID-19 patients. There’s been a sharp increase in the number of infections in the Motor City area recently.

NAIAS organizers are understandably disappointed, but they recognize that the health and safety of the American population is now the single most important thing.

The scheduled premieres might move to a different event or be held online, so we’ll keep an eye on that.

This comes after the cancellation of the Geneva Auto Show in early March and the postponement of the New York Auto Show from mid-April to late August.
