COVID-19: Dozens of Jaguar Land Rover Vehicles Come to the Rescue

Published on April 1, 2020 in News by Guillaume Rivard

While some car manufacturers are now making ventilators and personal protective equipment (PPE) or donating resources to communities in need during the COVID-19 crisis, Jaguar Land Rover has rolled out more than 160 vehicles globally to support emergency response organizations.

Many of those come from press fleets or launch events that were cancelled.

In Canada, for instance, Land Rover Defender and Discovery vehicles—with drivers—are being made available to assist in the collection of PPE to be used by hospitals.

Any person or business can go to the website www.theppedrive.com to donate their unused, unexpired supplies. Land Rover will dispatch a team to collect the items.

“Tattoo parlours, nail salons, estheticians, dental, veterinary and cosmetic surgery clinics could all have these supplies,” says Dr. Michael Warner, medical director of critical care at Toronto's Michael Garron Hospital. “Private and government labs could also have PPE on hand to donate.”

Currently the program is only in Toronto, but JLR hopes to roll it out in other markets.

Across the Atlantic, nearly 60 vehicles have been loaned to the British Red Cross to deliver medicine and food to vulnerable people who now need additional support due to social distancing rules.

Similar actions are underway in Spain, France, South Africa and Australia.

“Jaguar and Land Rover will do everything we can to support people in need around the world. Our partnership with the Red Cross goes back 65 years and we will work hand in hand with them to do all we can during this global health emergency,” says Finbar McFall, Jaguar Land Rover Customer Experience Director. “We can all play a part in helping the vulnerable during this global pandemic."
