Order a Triton Model H With 1,500 Hp and 1,100 km of Range

If you think the upcoming GMC Hummer EV will be the pinnacle of electric SUVs, a little-known manufacturer from New Jersey could change your mind.

For sure, the future Hummer sounds impressive with 1,000 horsepower, 11,500 pound-feet of torque, 0-100 km/h acceleration in three seconds and 645 kilometres of range thanks to the next-generation Ultium battery being developed by General Motors.

However, the new automotive division of Triton Solar is working on a product of epic proportions, with styling mirroring that of the Cadillac Escalade and a naming strategy similar to Tesla’s: the Model H.

This full-size SUV is available in base trim with a 150-kWh battery, 1,000 horsepower and a towing capacity of 15,400 pounds, as well as a Performance model featuring a 200-kWh battery, 1,500 horsepower and capable of towing 26,000 pounds.

In both cases, four electric motors combine to create a sophisticated all-wheel drive system where each wheel can be controlled individually.

Torque is not specified, but the Model H reportedly sprints to 100 km/h in as little as 2.9 seconds. As for range, Triton promises either 800 or 1,125 kilometres depending on the choice of battery. That’s astonishing especially when you consider that this eight-passenger mastodon weighs anywhere between 5,300-7,700 pounds.

What else? Let’s see, there’s a smart air suspension that adjusts to road and driving conditions, electronically controlled aerodynamics, a roof that’s more than 90 percent glass and could eventually integrate a solar panel system, plus a cargo area that expands to more than 5,600 litres when the rear seats are folded. You’ll find lots of fancy displays inside, too.

The Triton Model H can be pre-ordered now even though it only exists in digital renderings. Pricing starts at $140,000 USD (approx. $197,000) for the base model and $180,000 USD ($253,000) for the Performance model—a small fortune to say the least. Early adopters will be able to get the more powerful Model H for the same price as the standard one, mind you.

Moreover, there’s a Founder's Edition limited to 100 units featuring exclusive additions. A $5,000 deposit is required, with the remainder to be paid in a wire transfer within the next five business days, the company explains.
