The Car Guide’s 2020 Best Buys: Ford Expedition
Every year, The Car Guide publishes its Best Buys in nearly 30 different vehicle categories. Today we continue our review of the 2020 winners with a look at full-size SUVs. Since there are no real changes or new models to report about, the ranking stays the same.
The Ford Expedition (MSRP from $62,500) continues to stand out with its sophisticated technologies and twin-turbo V6 engine developing 375 or 400 horsepower depending on the trim level. It’s also the most fuel-efficient model in its class with a combined city/highway rating as low as 12.5 L/100 km, the best when it comes to towing with a capacity of 4,173 kilograms (9,200 pounds) and the one with the most refined ride.

If you need lots of space, you’ll be beautifully served by the long-wheelbase Expedition MAX. Want a luxurious SUV without stepping up to a Lincoln Navigator? The range-topping Platinum model will surprise you with 22-inch wheels, ventilated and massaging front seats as well as an exhaustive roundup of advanced safety features. Don't forget the new King Ranch, too!
In second place, we find a trio consisting of the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban (MSRP from $56,398) and the GMC Yukon (MSRP from $57,398). We like these robust SUVs very much. Offering a choice of V8 engines that produce 355 or 420 horsepower, they make cargo hauling and towing easy. The launch of the next-gen 2021 models should vault them to the top.
Finally, the third step of the podium is occupied by the Nissan Armada (MSRP from $65,898). This one boasts a powerful and throaty V8 engine rated at 390 horsepower and paired with a standard 4x4 system. Other highlights include great ride quality, a plush cabin and a long list of advanced safety features.
