Second-gen 2021 Buick Envision is Going to be Hot

After bolstering its lineup with the addition of the all-new Encore GX recently, Buick is now announcing the second-generation 2021 Envision, a model that was in dire need of a complete overhaul, having been around for five years.

Will it manage to leave the bottom of sales charts in the compact luxury SUV segment? That’s a daunting task, for sure, but the first few pictures and details released today are quite promising.

Lower and wider, the 2021 Buick Envision boasts much more attractive proportions and styling, with an extra dose of refinement and—dare we say it—sex appeal. None will be classier than the Envision Avenir, a top-line trim available on this SUV for the first time.

The interior will be transformed, as well, although the automaker provided no pictures. One key highlight will be Buick’s first available 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with access to in-vehicle apps such as Amazon Alexa and Spotify. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability will also be included.

Another good news is that the naturally aspirated 2.5-litre engine (197 horsepower) appears to be gone. Only the turbocharged 2.0-litre engine has been announced with the 2021 Envision. Will it get a boost from the current 252 horsepower? We’ll see. A nine-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive will also be part of the package.

Buick maintains a big focus on safety. All models will feature Automatic Emergency Braking with Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert, Following Distance Indicator, Rear Park Assist, Safety Alert Seat and an HD Rear Vision Camera.

This generous arsenal can be improved with the addition of Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist, HD Surround Vision, Front Park Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, Head-up Display and a Rear Camera Mirror.

The Chinese-built 2021 Buick Envision will hit the Canadian market early next year. Further details and pricing will be disclosed over the next few months.
