2021 Toyota GR Supra Base Price Drops by $8,000

The 2021 Toyota GR Supra is now on sale at Canadian dealerships and many will be pleased to find that the base price is down by more than $8,000 compared to the 2020 model.

The explanation is simple: the company has introduced a new entry-level variant featuring a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.

Starting at $56,390, this GR Supra 2.0 comes with 18-inch wheels, slightly smaller brakes, launch control, a digital instrument panel and Alcantara seats.

Weight is reduced by approximately 200 pounds and acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes just over five seconds—barely one second slower than the GR Supra 3.0 powered by the returning 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine.

The latter is priced from $67,690 for 2021, an increase of nearly $3,000. Again, this is easy to explain: output is up from 335 to 382 horsepower (with a tradeoff of 0.5 L/100 km at the pump), the retuned chassis delivers more stable handling in transitions, and new features are included such as front brake calipers emblazoned with the “SUPRA” logo and a wireless charger for personal electronics.

Other standard features on this model include a 12-speaker, 425-watt JBL audio system, navigation, head-up display, 19-inch alloy wheels, Adaptive Variable Suspension, active differential and 14-way power adjustable leather seats.

At the top of the lineup is another new GR Supra called A91 Edition. At $68,890, this one stands out with matte black wheels, a carbon fibre integrated rear spoiler and mirror caps, body side graphics and a unique black Alcantara interior with blue contrast stitching.

By the way, all 2021 Toyota GR Supra models use an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters as the company refuses to add a manual gearbox. And if you find the car still too expensive, there’s always the 86 coupe.
