X-Men’s Michael Fassbender to Race for Porsche in ELMS

Michael Fassbender is following in the footsteps of Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, Patrick Dempsey and other actors who have competed at high levels of auto racing.

Widely known for his role of Magneto in the X-Men movies and for portraying the founder of Apple in Steve Jobs, the German-Irish star will drive a Porsche 911 RSR for Proton Competition in the 2020 season of the European Le Mans Series.

His ultimate goal is to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In fact, you can watch his training and preparation in the YouTube series Road to Le Mans, in which he drove a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup as part of the Porsche Driving Experience.

"Even before I started acting, I had a big dream to go racing. It was clear to me at a young age. My father was an avid driver and he taught me a lot," Fassbender said. "I've just always felt drawn to going fast into a corner — and fast out — and just naturally felt connected to it."

Fassbender made his professional racing debut in various Ferrari Challenge series back in 2017-2018.

This time, as a member of Proton Competition, he will share the No.93 911 RSR with factory drivers Richard Lietz and Felipe Fernández Laser.

"It'll be interesting to see how Michael progresses. As a team, we’re delighted to be able to accompany him on his road to Le Mans," said Proton Competition team owner Christian Ried.

Fassbender’s first ELMS race will be the 4 Hours of Castellet on July 19.
