Alfa to Begin Building in Canada

The last Alfa Romeo to be available in North America was the controversial 164 sedan. With European styling and a compact footprint, it was made available in relatively small numbers before being axed entirely when Alfa made their grand exit. Shortly thereafter, it was replaced in Europe by the now-defunct 166.

And it would appear that the successor to the 166 will be the first four-doored Alfa to reappear in the US. Supposedly based upon the next-generation Chrysler LX (300, Charger, etc) platform, it’s expected to be built at the same Brampton plant as those cars. According to critics, the new 166 platform may also be shortened and hacked apart to supply Alfa with a short wheelbase Brera coupe and Spider convertible. Short of the 8C Competizione hypercar, the new 166 will be among the first of what will certainly be a variety of automobiles to come from the new pairing of Fiat and Chrysler.
