Jeep Gladiator Farout Concept is the New Overlanding King
Modern-day explorers and overlanding enthusiasts should be envious of the Jeep Gladiator Farout concept, which takes the brand’s supremely capable pickup to new heights and horizons.
Based on the 2021 Gladiator EcoDiesel, which can be ordered now and will officially go on sale later this summer, this unique vehicle was originally intended to debut at the Moab Easter Jeep Safari last April, but the event was cancelled due to COVID-19. It builds on the success of the Jeep Wayout concept from the 2019 edition of the spring classic.

“As overlanding continues to grow in popularity, this year’s Farout concept is another opportunity to showcase the Gladiator’s potential and gather feedback from our passionate customer base,” said Jim Morrison, head of Jeep in North America.
Similar to the Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel (and Ram 1500 EcoDiesel), the Jeep Gladiator Farout concept boasts FCA’s third-generation 3.0-litre EcoDiesel V6 engine, which generates 260 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. It also benefits from a newly added TorqueFlite 8HP75 eight-speed automatic transmission, calibrated for low-rpm shifts and the on- and off-road rigours of Gladiator duty. This transmission features engine start-stop technology for further fuel savings, although we’re still awaiting the official numbers from Natural Resources Canada.
The fully boxed cargo bed is capped by a neatly contained, customized deployable roof-top tent. The latter is 16 feet long by 7.5 feet tall, opens and retracts in a matter of seconds and comfortably sleeps up to four, Jeep claims. Moreover, the integrated roof-rack system allows for hauling additional gear topside.
The exterior also stands out with a new Earl grey body colour, black trim on the wheel arches, hood, tailgate and mirrors caps, plus electric yellow accents on the badges and tow hooks.
Jeep didn’t provide pictures of the cabin, but says the inviting wood-lined interior features soft ambient lighting, a fully functional refrigerator and stove, plus hanging storage racks, built-in seats and table space. There’s dark smoke blue leather, orange stitching and plaid flannel seat inserts, too.
And when it comes to performance, a two-inch lift kit combines with 17-inch matte charcoal rims, 37-inch mud-terrain tires, a modified Gladiator Rubicon steel bumper equipped with a 12,000-pound winch, custom front and rear rock rails and FOX performance shocks to easily overcome obstacles.
