2021 Lexus ES: All-Wheel Drive at Last

Published on August 22, 2020 in News by Germain Goyer

The Lexus ES will get all-wheel drive for the first time with the 2021 ES 250 AWD.

It will be powered by a 2.5 L four-cylinder engine with a 203-horsepower output. The AWD system will be able to deliver up to 50% of the torque to the rear wheels when required.

To achieve the best possible fuel economy, an electromagnetic coupling allows the driveshaft to be disconnected when all-wheel drive is not required. The average fuel consumption of this new variant is estimated at 8.4 L/100 km.

Lexus specifies that this feature does not affect occupant legroom, cargo volume or overall comfort. They also confirmed that the seat height is the same as for the front-wheel drive model.

The strategic decision makes it possible for Lexus to offer all-wheel drive midsize sedan despite the GS's removal from the catalogue.

A Special Edition for the ES

To top it off, Lexus will introduce a special edition of the ES. Derived from the F Sport version, this new ES 350 variant will be characterized by black accents, such as exterior mirrors, wheels, wheel nuts and spoiler all painted in black. As for the body colour, buyers will have the choice between blue and white.

This slightly revamped Lexus ES will arrive in Quebec dealerships this fall. We will know more about the ES’s price range sometime during September.
