As previously reported, the all-electric Ford F-150 will not be ready until mid-2022. However, while announcing the start of production of the new, fourteenth-generation 2021 F-150 today at the Ford Rouge Center in Dearborn, Michigan, the automaker confirmed construction of the new Rouge Electric Vehicle Center where it will build the anticipated battery-powered F-150.

At the same time, we’ve learned a few more details about the truck, which is undergoing tens of thousands of hours of torture testing and targeting millions of simulated, laboratory and real-world test kilometres.

Unsurprisingly, Ford is saying that the electric F-150 will deliver more horsepower and torque than any F-150 on sale today, without providing an estimation. It will also be the cheapest to run and maintain, creating more than 40 percent savings for its lifetime total cost of operation.

Two electric motors will drive this zero-emission F-150 and allow customers to tow heavy loads as they would with a conventionally powered pickup. In addition, the newly available space under the hood will result in a “giant” front trunk, or frunk, Ford says.

But wait, there’s more juicy information. Ford will debut new technology on the electric F-150 that allows mobile power generation so customers can use their trucks as a power source for places from campsites to jobsites when needed. And like the rest of the all-new F-150 lineup, the electric model will continuously improve over time with fast over-the-air updates.
