Don't Miss the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Debut Tomorrow

While baseball fans will have their eyes on the Dodgers and Rays in game 1 of the World Series on Tuesday night, truck lovers and electric car enthusiasts alike probably won’t want to miss the official debut of the all-new 2022 GMC Hummer EV, the modern, zero-emission interpretation of the infamous American gas-guzzler.

Remember, the event was originally scheduled to take place in May, but the COVID-19 pandemic changed the automaker’s plans.

What do we know about the electric Hummer so far? It will be available in both SUV and pickup configurations with removable roof panels and front T-bar, creating a unique open-air experience.

The electric motors will deliver up to 1,000 horsepower, an insane 11,500 pound-feet of torque and 0-100 km/h acceleration in about three seconds. There will be an Adrenaline mode for performance and a Crab mode for low-speed manoeuvres off the road.

Also, look for massive all-terrain tires, several tow hooks and GMC’s versatile MultiPro tailgate (currently found on the Sierra). As for range, it could be as long as 645 kilometres with the new Ultium battery.

Reservations for the 2022 GMC Hummer EV will start right after the premiere with a required $100 deposit. However, customers will need to be more patient to take delivery of their vehicle. You see, production is slated to begin next fall at GM’s Detroit/Hamtramck assembly plant in Michigan, which is being retooled to build EVs exclusively (and given a new moniker, “Factory Zero”). For Canadians, the wait will be a year longer—meaning the fall of… 2022.

You can watch the reveal on the GMC website or YouTube channel at 8pm tomorrow. The Car Guide will simultaneously provide you with all the important details and pictures. It’s a date!
