Redesigned Nissan Frontier Spotted Ahead of Official Launch
The Nissan Frontier is one of the oldest new models available in Canada, with the current generation dating back to 2005.
This summer, we learned that Nissan Canada chose not to offer a Frontier for 2020 and 2021. A new generation is in the works, but it appears we won’t be getting it before the 2022 model year.

What will this next Frontier look like? Don’t expect a complete transformation, but enough changes to stay relevant and attract new customers in the midsize pickup segment, which is still dominated by its domestic rival, the Toyota Tacoma, and recently energized by the addition of the new Ford Ranger and Jeep Gladiator.
Images now shared by Formacar seem to show the redesigned Nissan Frontier in production form, without any camouflage. They sort of match the silhouette of the truck we saw in a shadowy teaser posted by Nissan back in May to announce its future product lineup.
There’s a larger front grille along with revised bumpers, new LED headlights and taillights that look much more modern, plus roof rails on the top of the cabin. Some rugged-looking wheels are part of the package, too.
One particular image depicts a grey-coloured model aimed at off-road enthusiasts—possibly a Frontier PRO-4X—in a move that follows the latest Nissan TITAN. The vehicle adopts a raised suspension, dark body cladding, the “FRONTIER” name stamped above the grille and a brush guard below.
For an unofficial first look, this is pretty encouraging.
Meanwhile, expect the Nissan Frontier to house a direct-injected 3.8-litre V6 engine that produces 310 horsepower and 281 pound-feet of torque via a new nine-speed automatic transmission. It will likely also feature Nissan’s Safety Shield 360 suite of advanced driver assistance systems.
