Range Rover Velar and Evoque Get Techier for 2021

Similar to a number of Jaguar Land Rover products including the Jaguar F-PACE and E-PACE as well as the Land Rover Discovery, there are some changes to report about the 2021 Range Rover Velar and Range Rover Evoque.

These vehicles were initially supposed to make their public debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show this month, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the event, so everything took place online.

2021 Range Rover Velar

The most notable change to this elegant compact luxury SUV can be found under the hood. The supercharged 3.0-litre V6 has been replaced by a turbocharged V6 featuring 48V mild hybrid technology. Output is rated at 335 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque in P340 trim, or 395 horsepower and 405 pound-feet in P400 trim. The latter accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5.5 seconds.

The interior of the Velar evolves to include the automaker’s new Pivi Pro infotainment system. The dual 10-inch displays remain, but the rotary gear selector gives way to a stubby shifter. Active road noise cancellation technology makes the drive quieter, while an advanced cabin air filtration system is available.

Pricing for the 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Velar starts at $63,500. The sharper-looking, better-equipped R-Dynamic model retails from $73,200.

The smallest member of the Land Rover family also gets the Pivi Pro system with a simplified menu structure and faster processing. A new dual-SIM modem acts as a Wi-Fi hotspot and allows over-the-air software updates.

Surround-view cameras are part of the mix, while the same advanced cabin air filtration system is optional. Bad news: the 296-horsepower variant of the turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine has been eliminated, leaving only the base 246-horsepower mill producing 269 pound-feet of torque.

The 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque can be yours for $48,700. The R-Dynamic model requires a premium of at least $6,000.

Both of these Land Rover SUVs are now on sale in Canada, by the way.
