Honda Recalls 33,000 Cars in Canada, Electronics Are to Blame
Honda is announcing a recall on 33,150 cars in Canada to fix a problem with the Body Control Module. Just two models are affected, however, namely the 2018-2020 Honda Accord (including Accord Hybrid) and the 2019-2020 Honda Insight.
In some cases, a software problem in the Body Control Module could cause different systems and warnings to stop working. We’re talking about the window defrosting/defogging system, windshield wipers, turn signals and lights, rear-view camera display and power windows, among others.

Obviously, when some of these systems start to malfunction or fail, visibility and safety are compromised, increasing the risk of an accident.
The good news is that the fix is simple. The Body Control Module merely needs to be reprogrammed via a software update. Owners will soon receive a mailed notice from Honda asking them to take their car to a dealer for a free repair.
What About the 2021 Honda Accord?
This recall does not involve the 2021 Accord, which went on sale earlier this month with a series of changes and updates as reported in a previous article.
Among them are a wider, restyled grille, new alloy wheel designs, new LED headlights on Sport and above models, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility on select models, plus a new Rear Seat Reminder alerting drivers to check the rear seating area when exiting the car for children, pets or other precious cargo.
There’s also the new Accord SE model, exclusive to customers in Canada, which features 19-inch wheels, full LED lighting, a rear trunk lid spoiler, dark chrome grille, chrome exhaust finishers, leatherette/fabric seating surfaces and leather steering wheel.
The six-speed manual gearbox is no longer available, so you must settle for a CVT with the 1.5-litre turbo engine and a 10-speed automatic transmission with the 2.0-litre turbo. The Accord Hybrid benefits from updates to the two-motor hybrid system for a more direct and immediate throttle response with a more natural acceleration feeling, Honda claims.
