In case you don’t know, Jeep is launching a plug-in hybrid variant of its iconic 4x4. Called Wrangler 4xe, this new SUV will start to arrive at Canadian dealers in the first quarter of 2021, and pricing details have just been revealed.

There are two trim levels to choose from. The Wrangler Sahara 4xe carries a starting MSRP of $54,995, while the Wrangler Rubicon 4xe has a starting MSRP of $59,995. All prices exclude the available EV rebate of $8,000 in Quebec or $1,500 in British Columbia, and $1,895 destination charges.

Since both Wrangler 4xe models cost over $45,000, they are not eligible to the additional $5,000 reduction from the federal government.

“The 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe is the greenest, most efficient and capable Wrangler we have created yet,” said Christian Meunier, Global President of Jeep Brand. “We are committed to making Jeep the greenest SUV brand, and the new Wrangler 4xe is part of that goal, delivering an efficient, eco-friendly and fun-to-drive experience both on- and off-road.”

This plug-in hybrid Wrangler generates 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, sprints from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in just over six seconds, and provides a zero-emission range of about 40 kilometres—significantly less than the Toyota RAV4 Prime (68 km) and Ford Escape PHEV (61 km). Fuel consumption is an estimated 4.7 Le/100 km.

Off the road, it can count on Jeep’s Selec-Trac full-time 4WD system with a transfer case that boasts a 2.72:1 low gear ratio, plus third-gen Dana 44 HD wide axles.

Even more capable, the Wrangler Rubicon 4xe uses the Rock-Trac full-time 4WD system with a a 4:1 low gear ratio. It also stands out with additional blue accents including the Rubicon name on the hood, exterior badges and stitching on the seats and trim.
