Delayed 2022 GMC Terrain is Finally Here
The GMC Terrain gets a mid-cycle update for 2022 after a one-year delay caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Look for refreshed styling, increased refinement, a new AT4 model and a few more technologies.
Changes to the exterior include a redesigned and more rugged-looking grille across the lineup, redesigned headlights and taillights (all LED), four new body colours, and new 18- and 19-inch wheel designs. The sporty-looking Elevation package with black accents is back.

The interior of the 2022 Terrain features modified trim and fabric, built-in Amazon Alexa capabilities, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The top-line Denali model gets a standard eight-inch driver information centre. A new head-up display is available, though information is projected onto a small clear panel instead of the windshield.
New Terrain AT4
While the Denali evolves with refined touches, the most notable addition is the first-ever GMC Terrain AT4. It originally made its debut in January of 2020 and was supposed to hit the market last fall, but the pandemic changed the company’s plans.
AT4 is a GMC sub-brand with a focus on off-road driving. We’ve seen it on the Sierra, then the Acadia, Canyon and Yukon. The Terrain is the final piece of the puzzle.
Various black accents (wheels, mirror caps, roof rails and more) and AT4 badges on the headrests add style, while a front steel skid plate and all-terrain tires allow more serious off-road excursions.
One Engine
The 2022 GMC Terrain returns with a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine rated at 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque. It is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is available.
Discreetly tossed aside in the past year, the turbocharged 2.0-litre engine (252 horsepower) won’t be back as sales were reportedly not strong enough.
All 2022 GMC Terrain models will arrive in Canadian dealerships this summer except the Denali which is slated for this fall. Pricing should be slightly up.
