Original Hyundai Pony Re-imagined as a Modern EV

In order to celebrate the opening of its new design studio in Busan, South Korea, Hyundai is hosting a special exhibition titled “Reflections in Motion” that showcases the evolution of Hyundai cars from the very beginning.

It starts with a segment called "Heritage Series – PONY" which is a reinterpretation of the classic Hyundai Pony from 1975. As far as restomods go, this one is delightfully simple and oddly attractive.

The exterior has been cleaned up and refreshed just enough to give the Pony a modern look, but the resemblance with its 46-year-old self is striking. The LED taillights are super-cool, while the pixel-style taillights are inspired by the upcoming 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5. Also, two cameras mounted on the front fenders replace the original side mirrors.

The company did not provide any technical details because it’s a design study first and foremost, so you’re free to picture this zero-emission Pony with the powertrain of the IONIQ Electric, Kona Electric or the aforementioned IONIQ 5.
