Chevrolet to Pay for Standard Installation of Level 2 Home Charging Outlet

Just like it does in the U.S., Chevrolet today announced it will cover the cost of the standard installation of a Level 2 (240V) charging home outlet for eligible Canadian customers who purchase or lease a new 2022 Bolt EV or Bolt EUV.

“This is another step to make EV ownership easier and more accessible to everyone,” said Laura Pacey, brand director of Chevrolet Canada. “We understand the ability to conveniently charge at home or on the go plays heavily into a customer’s decision to purchase an EV and we’re providing the access to solutions to simplify the EV experience for all Canadians.”

To be clear, there’s no need to acquire a standalone charging station. Chevrolet, through a partnership with Qmerit, will install a NEMA 14-50 outlet in the garage or on the side of the house along with a 40-amp circuit breaker in the electrical panel.

Then all you have to do is to use the new Dual Level Charge Cord that’s standard on the Bolt EUV and soon to be available for purchase on the Bolt EV. The cord has a changeable plug that allows you to plug into a standard 120V three-prong outlet for Level 1 charging and a 240V outlet for Level 2 charging up to 7.2 kilowatts.

With the second option, the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV achieve approximately 40 kilometres per hour of charge. Remember, their maximum range is officially rated at 417 kilometres and 402 kilometres, respectively.

For maximum Level 2 charging speed, both vehicles are now capable of 11 kilowatts, but in this case a standalone charging station is required.

Statistics show that most plug-in EV drivers do more than 80 percent of their charging at home.

For customers who already have Level 2 charging capability or don’t require it, Chevrolet Canada is offering a credit of $750 at FLO fast-charging stations across the country. With these chargers, 30 minutes will give you up to 160 kilometres of range.
