2022 Infiniti QX60: A New Design, at Last!

Published on June 23, 2021 in News by Marc-André Gauthier

The Infiniti QX60 is the brand's most popular vehicle, but this 7-passenger SUV was critically due for a thorough refresh. Today, Infiniti is finally presenting the new generation of this model. Here’s a closer look at Infiniti’s newly redesigned mid-size.

Just Like the Concept

Last fall, Infiniti gave us a taste of what the new QX60 would look like thanks to the QX60 Monograph concept. And we have to admit that the production model unveiled today is not too far from the prototype in question, adopting a more assertive style and looking much more luxurious than ever before.

Outside, designers steered clear from unnecessarily aggressive lines in order to project a more refined image. Inside, the transformation is pushed even further. While the outgoing interior was rather anachronistic, the new look is much more modern and current.

We particularly like the dashboard which really (and finally) gives the occupants the feel of a high-end vehicle.

Overall, this new QX60 looks a lot more like a luxury vehicle than before.

Plenty of Gadgets

The traditional instrument cluster gave way to a digital screen that can be customized to suit the user's tastes and preferences. This new interface, which is similar to the one introduced in the remodeled Nissan Rogue, is added alongside a slew of other gadgets.

For example, a 17-speaker premium audio system is available as an option. The QX60 features Infiniti's advanced ProPilot system, which allows the vehicle to be driven essentially without human assistance on the highway. Finally, Wireless Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto are also part of the included tech.

The biggest improvement in the cabin is the introduction of a 12.3-inch screen powered by the latest version of Infiniti’s infotainment system. While this particular element might sound common for the modern luxury SUV, it represents a huge leap forward for this model.

More Competent Performance

Only one engine choice has been elected so far for the 2022 QX60. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder with variable compression technology found in the QX50 and QX55 could’ve been a logical sidekick, but that’s not the case at this time. Instead, Infiniti dug up a proven solution, which is the good old naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6. Power and torque remain unchanged from the outgoing model, with 295 hp and 270 lb-ft.

The cavalry is channelled to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission, which should greatly improve driving experience compared to the outgoing QX60, considering one of the irritants of the 2021 model is the monotonous character of the continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).

We know that the QX60 should also be available in front-wheel-drive version, but the Canadian market should logically receive all-wheel drive variants exclusively.
