Lamborghini Countach Reborn With 803-horsepower Hybrid V12
Just a few days after announcing the return of the legendary Countach, Lamborghini unveiled the all-new Countach LPI 800-4 this weekend at The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering in California.
Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Countach and its revolutionary design (it shaped the Lamborghini design DNA like no other car), this new supercar will be limited to 112 units, a nod to the ‘LP 112’ internal project name used during the original Countach’s development. Deliveries will start in the first quarter of 2022.

A Tall Order for Designers
Reinventing such an icon was certainly no easy task. There are multiple ties to the past, as you can see on the pictures. Inspiration was taken from the Quattrovalvole edition in the assertive lines of the front hood with long, low rectangular grille and headlights, as well as in the wheel arches with their hexagonal theme.
The silhouette is a bit less angular now, but designers made a point to keep it clean with no fixed rear wing, for instance. The big triangular intakes on the sides create powerful contrast, just like the 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels designed in the ‘telephone’ style of the 1980s. The signature quadruple tailpipes of the Countach are connected within the carbon fibre rear diffuser. Access for driver and passenger is of course via the famous scissor doors, which were first introduced on the Countach.
The monocoque chassis and all the body panels are in carbon fibre, providing the optimum lightweight solution (the LPI 800-4 has a dry weight of 1595 kilograms) as well as exceptional torsional stiffness. Moveable air vents produced by 3D printing technology and a photochromatic roof that changes from solid to transparent at the push of a button are included, too.
The V12 is Not Dead Yet
Using a naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 engine combined with Lamborghini’s hybrid technology developed for the Sián, the Countach LPI 800-4 produces as much as 803 total horsepower. Of course, it’s blessed with all-wheel drive, accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds, 0-200 km/h in 8.6 seconds and achieving a top speed of 355 km/h.
By the way, the 48-volt electric motor is mounted directly on the gearbox and powered by a supercapacitor providing three times more power compared to a lithium-ion battery of the same weight. The Countach LPI 800-4 is also equipped with carbon ceramic brake discs and Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires.
Inside, sport seats with large side bolsters and a six-pack are another expression of the car’s muscle. An 8.4-inch centre touchscreen unique to the LPI 800-4 manages car controls including connectivity and Apple CarPlay. It also has a unique button called ‘Stile’ (design): when pressed, it explains the Countach design philosophy to its privileged audience.
As mentioned up top, only 112 units will be built, all of which are already sold. Pricing is set at $2.6 million USD.
