2022 Nissan LEAF Prices Slashed to Keep Up With Bolt EV

Published on August 30, 2021 in News by Guillaume Rivard

The refreshed and much cheaper 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV was sure to cause rivals to step up their game or at least do something about their prices. Today, Nissan announced it will offer the LEAF at a significantly lower MSRP in order to avoid losing too many customers.

The electric hatchback’s entry price drops from $44,298 to $37,498 for 2022—a difference of $6,800… exactly like the Bolt EV.

"Nissan was the first automaker with a globally-available mass-market electric vehicle and we're continuing in the tradition of making electric vehicles available to everyone," said Ken Hearn, Director of Marketing at Nissan Canada. "With the amount of technology that LEAF offers, combined with new pricing, this is simply just an amazing value."

Below are pricing details for the 2022 Nissan LEAF:

Model

Battery / Range

MSRP

LEAF SV

40 kWh / up to 240 km of range

$37,498

LEAF S PLUS

In each case, provincial and federal EV incentives of up to $8,000 and $5,000, respectively, continue to apply.

Unlike its American rival, however, the 2022 Nissan LEAF benefits from no cosmetic or technological updates. It’s the same car as the 2021 model.

The 110-kW electric motor delivers 147 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque and is fed by a 40-kWh lithium-ion battery that provides up to 240 kilometres of range. Higher trim levels are a lot more interesting with a 160-kW motor that produces 214 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque, as well as a 62-kWh lithium-ion battery resulting in up to 363 kilometres of range.

None of them can match the Bolt EV, mind you. Chevy’s car is able to cover up to 417 kilometres when its 65-kWh battery is fully charged. Meanwhile, its 150-kW motor (200 horsepower) serves up 266 pound-feet of torque.
