Brand New 2022 Nissan Pathfinder Already Faces Two Recalls
UPDATED 10/08/2021: Nissan Canada is announcing a third recall affecting 890 Pathfinders. The head restraints on the third-row seats may not have been properly welded and could move or detach from the seat in a crash. Below is the original story.
Nissan has high hopes for the completely redesigned 2022 Pathfinder, which can be seen tackling all sorts of trails and terrains in a new commercial airing seemingly every other hour on TV. The three-row midsize SUV from Japan has been on sale in Canada since the summer, but it’s already facing two separate recalls—proving once again that it’s often best to wait a little before buying a next-generation product.

In Nissan’s defense, we’re not talking about major issues that affect a large number of units.
First, the secondary hood latch bracket may not have been properly welded during assembly, meaning the latch may not engage correctly. You can imagine the rest if this happens and the primary hood latch is released: the hood could pop up suddenly while driving and block the driver's view. A scary thing to happen especially when going down a rocky descent, wouldn’t you agree?
Nissan is therefore asking the 317 affected customers in Canada to take their Pathfinder to a dealer to inspect and possibly replace the secondary hood latch bracket. The number of unsold units currently in dealer lots remains unknown.
The second recall also involves potential welding issues, this time on the second-row seat frames. As a result, the seatback could fail and move in a crash, increasing the risk of injury for occupants.
In Canada, 359 units could find themselves in this situation and thus require an inspection. The seat assemblies will be replaced if necessary.
As a reminder, the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder is revised and improved throughout. Although the familiar 284-horsepower V6 engine is back, it’s now mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission instead of a CVT. Every model comes standard with all-wheel drive. Pricing ranges from $43,798-$54,398 plus destination and handling.
