Redesigned 2022 Lexus LX 600 Gets Twin-turbo V6, VIP Cabin

The current Lexus LX is as old as it gets, having debuted back in 2007 as a 2008 model. At long last, a brand new model is coming for 2022, and you’ll be able to see it in Canadian showrooms this winter.

Now called LX 600 instead of LX 570, Lexus’ full-size SUV is largely redesigned and built on an all-new, 20 percent stiffer GA-F platform that also contributes to a weight saving of 200 kilograms.

The name change comes from the new twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 engine shared with the 2022 Toyota Tundra. Power and torque are rated at 409 hp and 479 lb-ft, respectively, an increase of 29 hp and 76 lb-ft from the naturally aspirated V8 that’s no longer available. Meanwhile, the automatic transmission gets two extra gears for a total of 10.

In order to improve handling, the LX 600 is blessed with a new electronically controlled braking system and electric power steering. The suspension was revised and now boasts additional rebound. Active Height Control technology enables an expanded range of ride height positions while also reducing the time needed to adjust ride height. A Torsen limited-slip differential is even included on F SPORT models.

Off the road, drivers will likely enjoy the evolved Multi-Terrain Select system offering six modes (Auto, Dirt, Sand, Mud, Deep Snow, Rock), Multi-Terrain Monitor that uses four cameras to see around the vehicle in tight spots, and Crawl Control combined with Downhill Assist Control.

And now we come to the design, which looks new yet classic at the same time. The A-pillars are pulled rearward to create a cab-backward design, the signature spindle grille features a three-dimensional shape comprised of seven sets of floating bars, and the headlights are redesigned for a sharper appearance.

New 20- and 22-inch wheels (the largest ever fitted to a Lexus product) highlight the sides, while the redesigned rear LEXUS logo sits below a light bar connecting the new taillights, as seen on the 2022 Lexus NX. The first-ever LX F SPORT adds sportier touches, exclusive wheels and available Circuit Red leather inside.

Speaking of the interior, a whole new layout and interface awaits passengers. The upper 12.3-inch centre display shows navigation, audio controls and the Multi-Terrain Monitor during off-road driving. The lower 7-inch touch display shows the climate control screen and serves as a driving-support screen for Multi-Terrain Select. Lexus claims this helps create a more comfortable driving experience with a variety of views, instrumentation and control adjustments, but it seems to overlook the inevitable distractions for drivers.

Last but certainly not the least is the new VIP Executive package, which makes for arguably the most opulent cabin in the segment with just four individual seats, a ton of space (maximum 1,100 mm of legroom) and big, convenient consoles in the middle. A footrest behind the front passenger seat can be deployed to provide maximum comfort from head to toe, while an exclusive air conditioning system offers unique overhead ceiling vents.

Pricing for the 2022 Lexus LX 600 ranges from $106,950-$119,950.
