Chevrolet Silverado Limited Returns for 2022, But Not for Long

Published on November 8, 2021 in News by Guillaume Rivard

A lot of pickup buyers don’t necessarily want the latest design or most advanced technologies, just a good truck at an affordable price. That’s why the previous-generation Ram 1500 (now called Ram 1500 Classic) continues to be built alongside the new model.

In the case of Chevrolet, there’s the Silverado 1500 Limited, which is back for 2022 but only for a short period of time. As GM Authority has learned from Director of Chevrolet Truck Marketing Kelly MacDonald, the model merely bridges the gap between the outgoing 2021 Silverado 1500 and the refreshed 2022 Silverado 1500 that’s slated to enter production in the first quarter of next year.

The latter was originally supposed to launch early in the 2022 model year, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing chip shortage. The order books will open in December.

For this mid-cycle update, a ZR2 off-road model joins the lineup, while the cabin is beautifully modernized. Among other things, LT and higher trim levels get a large 13.4-inch touchscreen for infotainment, while the instrument panel goes full digital with a 12.3-inch display.

Furthermore, the 2022 Silverado’s long list of features includes blind spot assist taking into account a trailer attached to the pickup. High Country models will offer Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving technology which will work even when trailering (though not during automatic lane changes).

But let’s go back to the 2022 Silverado 1500 Limited. Starting at $32,648, it costs just $600 more than the 2021 Silverado 1500—and likely a lot less than the upcoming 2022 model, whose prices have yet to be announced. The 4.3-litre V6 as well as the 5.3-litre V8 with Active Fuel Management are no longer available.
