Compact SUVs are extremely popular and there is plenty of choice for the customer. First, if we look at used compact SUVs from popular brands, the Toyota RAV4 and the Honda CR-V are always symbols of reliability and quality. The former certainly has the lowest long-term cost of ownership and, even though it's more expensive to buy, the difference is worth it. The latter proves to be solid, balanced, and also inexpensive in the long run, but buyers should look at 2016 or earlier models with the 2.4-litre engine, as those that followed with the 1.5-litre turbo engine have had more mechanical issues.

The very versatile and efficient Subaru Forester as well as the spacious Mitsubishi Outlander demonstrate great durability and are generally great buys. There is even a good chance that the used Outlander you find is still under warranty, given Mitsubishi's excellent coverage, especially regarding the powertrain.

Be careful when considering a used Nissan Rogue; its average quality and very fragile CVT transmission can be causes for concern.
