Hyundai Suprised With New Sonata

Published on December 7, 2009 in Los Angeles by Dan Fritter

The Hyundai Sonata has been, historically, one of the most unanimously happy vehicles on the planet. Decent looking, nice to drive, very practical, and quite affordable, it’s inoffensive and comfortable. To a fault.

Enter the new Sonata. If you believe the press material, it’s even more practical and efficient thanks to a bevy of new powertrains, but the big news is on the outside. Ditching the pedestrian clothing in favour of some seriously curvy new sheetmetal, the 2011 Sonata promises to turn at least a few heads that would have watched the previous model roll by unnoticed.

Of course, Hyundai is quick to mention that the sheetmetal is just one of the many serious revisions they’ve completed. Inside, unknown quantities of luxury should abound, and Hyundai promises the standard four-cylinder will be joined by both a turbocharged variant as well as a hybrid. Interesting stuff, to be sure, but we’ll have to wait until we get our hands on it to pass judgement in full.
