Oshawa’s First Truck Off the Line Goes to Quebec Dealer

Published on December 15, 2021 in News by Guillaume Rivard

With Oshawa Assembly resuming pickup truck production after a nearly two-year hiatus, General Motors Canada held a dealer contest for the opportunity to purchase the first pickup off the line.

The winning dealer is Paillé Chevrolet Buick GMC in Berthierville, Quebec, who will take delivery of the vehicle in January—a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado HD High Country sporting the colours of the Canadian flag along with exclusive “VIN 001” graphics.

In the process, GM Canada raised $115,000 for the Durham Children’s Aid Foundation. A convoy of Oshawa-built Silverados filled with toys and gifts worth $36,000 also took part in the event, continuing the legacy of Sharon Clark, a GM employee who started Sharon’s Kids at Oshawa Assembly.

“Thank you to everyone who came together in the spirit of giving and congratulations to Paillé Chevrolet Buick GMC, who now owns a piece of Canadian history,” said Scott Bell, GM Canada president and managing director. “GM Canada and our community have supported Durham Children’s Aid for over 50 years, and I am so proud that we are honouring Sharon’s legacy to make the holidays a little brighter for children that need it most in the Durham Region.”

“We were happy to donate to a cause as worthy as Sharon’s Kids for the chance to bring VIN 001 to Paillé,” said Jean-Claude Paillé, president of Paillé Chevrolet Buick GMC in Berthierville. “We look forward to displaying that beautiful truck at our store, and we’re looking forward to seeing many more Oshawa-built pickups built on the road.”

As a reminder, the Silverado HD boasts a maximum payload of 7,442 pounds, while towing capacity can be as high as 36,000 pounds with the proper equipment. Several new technologies and cameras are available to make towing easier. Also, there are two 6.6-litre V8 engines to choose from—one is gasoline-powered and the other runs on diesel.
