Corvette Recall Over Removable Roofs
Built entirely out of fibreglass, Corvettes have had something of a dubious history. Although long thought of as some of the best performing sports cars in the world, they’ve struggled to legitimize themselves among the world’s elite due in large part to the less than stellar build quality. Creaks, rattles, and shoddy worksmanship have long dominated everything not related to going fast, and the cars have suffered as a result.
And although they’ve definitely gotten better, they haven’t managed to shake out all the cobwebs, as we’ve just learned of a recent recall for 2005-2007 Corvettes. It seems the cars, most of which come with removable targa-type roof panels, have a little-know ability to jettison their roof panels. According to the NHTSA, if your Corvette suffers from undue noise and movement from the roof as well as leaks, the glue holding the roof down may be failing.
Interestingly, a TSB was issued in 2006 pertaining to similar issues with failing adhesive causing “roof delamination.”
