Nissan Ariya Delayed, Keeps Canadians Waiting
Initially set to launch in the second half of 2021, then in the early part of 2022, the all-new Nissan Ariya has been delayed once again. Blame the global chip shortage and various supply chain disruptions.
As Automotive News reports, sales of the electric crossover are now scheduled to start on May 12 in Japan, this summer in Europe and this fall in North America.

The first window for reservations in Canada opened on February 3 but is currently closed due to the limited number of units available (a $1,000 deposit was required). Nissan is not saying when reservations will resume but invites customers to sign up for news and updates via its website.
Pricing for the 2023 Nissan Ariya has still not been announced. In fact, we have yet to see the Canadian-spec model. There was no premiere at the Montreal Auto Show in January since the event was cancelled due to COVID-19. Furthermore, the Ariya on display at the Nissan Studio in Yorkdale (Toronto) this winter was a pre-production unit with right-hand drive coming straight from Japan.
A future rival of the Hyundai IONIQ 5, Kia EV6 and Ford Mustang Mach-E, not to mention the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra, the Ariya offers FWD and AWD configurations—the latter using the automaker’s e4force system—and a choice of 63kWh and 87kWh batteries (net capacity).
Nissan is targeting a range anywhere between 330-482 kilometres, while output is rated at 214 horsepower or 389 horsepower depending on the number of motors.
Six trim levels will be available at first, with ProPILOT Assist and Navi-link technology included as standard. ProPILOT Park will be optional. Other notable features include wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, a lounge-like premium interior and Nissan Safety Shield 360.
Hopefully Nissan will be able to share updates about the Ariya’s Canadian timing in the coming weeks.
