Mercedes Vision AMG Concept Hints at AMG’s Electric Future
What do you think Mercedes-AMG’s electric sports cars will look like in the future? The German automaker is giving us a sort of preview with the spectacular Vision AMG concept unveiled today.
Right away, we can see many similarities with another concept that was shown earlier this year: the Vision EQXX that promises—and delivers—over 1,000 km of range. A long and super-low silhouette with exceptional aerodynamic efficiency, long wheelbase, short front overhang, muscular fenders and oversized wheels are all part of the mix. The Vision AMG stands out with a closed grille featuring illuminated vertical bars and contour, plus unique headlights reminiscent of the brand’s three-pointed star logo.

The exterior appears to be cut from a single piece of metal, with joints and shut lines that are reduced to a minimum, and the rear and side windows are painted in the same Alubeam silver as the car itself. By the way, the concept’s colours are shared with the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team.
The sharply angled, tear-off edge at the rear incorporates an active spoiler, elongating the side view while at the same time improving the aerodynamics. It is framed by a long and thin band of light that accommodates a variety of different light installations while providing contrast with the large black AMG logo on the rear. And how about those six LED rings positioned in cylindrical tubes—they look like red-hot tailpipes!
"The Vision AMG shows in spectacular style what electrification could look like at Mercedes-AMG, while staying true to the brand aesthetic,” says Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of Mercedes-Benz Group AG. “The study's extreme proportions create fascination and passion for performance—that's what AMG is all about.”
Serving as the main foundation is a brand new, dedicated AMG.EA platform, which is currently under development in Affalterbach for all-electric performance models that will hit the road starting in 2025.
However, since this is mostly a design study, the automaker is not revealing the interior or providing performance specs. We do know that the Vision AMG offers ample space for four and makes use of an innovative Axial Flux Motor, developed by Mercedes-Benz' wholly owned subsidiary YASA, that is said to generate “substantially more” power than conventional electric motors.
