Myers Manx 2.0 : the Famous Dune-Buggy Goes 100% Electric
Famous California dune-buggy manufacturer Meyers Manx has just revealed the first images of its new electric vehicle. Dubbed the Meyers Manx 2.0, it will be officially unveiled next week at the prestigious The Quail event in Carmel, California. While this vintage dune buggy usually borrows its chassis and powertrain from the legendary Volkswagen Beetle, the approach is quite different for this new creation.
This time around, it will be built on an all-aluminum monocoque chassis. It’ll benefit from independent suspensions, disc brakes at all four corners and will also be equipped with electric power steering.
Meyers Manx intends to offer two battery sizes (20 and 40 kWh). Opting for the larger one will provide an estimated 202 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque. Two electric motors will drive each of the rear wheels.
As for range, it is estimated at 483 kilometres and would be cut in half with the smaller capacity battery. The price range of this new toy has not been disclosed yet. Official deliveries are expected to begin in 2023 and the first 50 examples will be sent to consumers who will agree to be guinea pigs while details unfold and the machine gets fine-tuned.
