Next-Gen 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Makes Global Debut, Looks Rugged
Subaru introduced a redesigned yet still familiar third-generation Crosstrek in a world premiere today.
While the vehicle you see here is the one designed for Japan and some differences will apply to the Canadian-bound version, due next year as a 2024 model, it’s pretty clear that the automaker went for a subtle evolution in typical Subaru fashion.

Flexing Its Muscles
The new Crosstrek is essentially the same size and shape as its predecessor. Width and height are unchanged, and the 5 mm removed from the overall length are added to the wheelbase. That being said, all the body panels have been redesigned, Subaru assures.
Ditto for the front grille, which is larger and more aggressively styled. The headlights and taillights now look more like those on recent products from the brand. The plastic cladding on the bumpers, wheel arches and lower body is more pronounced, too, while new 17- and 18-inch wheel designs are available. Overall, these details give the Crosstrek a more rugged and adventurous appearance.
Big Screen
The interior similarly evolves in subtle ways, except for the centre interface. Select models feature a new 11.6-inch touchscreen (as found in the Legacy, Outback and WRX) instead of a dual-display arrangement. There are fewer physical buttons as a result. The instrument panel sticks to analogue gauges with a small digital display in the middle.
The seats are appointed in a new fabric or leather depending on the model. The cargo area lower trim and side sill plates are textured with a mountain motif, which not only adds a cool touch but also provides slip and scratch prevention.
Stiffer and Sharper
The next-generation 2024 Subaru Crosstrek is built on an upgraded version of the Subaru Global Platform, with key reinforcements resulting in increased rigidity and stability as well as reduced noise and vibration. Steering is said to be sharper, as well.
When it comes to engine selection, we’ll have to wait for the North American specs to be revealed, possibly at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. Expect the 2.0- and 2.5-litre options to carry over, though there’s a chance the former gets the axe. An e-boxer hybrid model is available in Japan. As for the Crosstrek PHEV, its fate will be decided later.
Oh, and there’s good news for safety-minded drivers: Subaru’s next-generation EyeSight system is included, complete with a wide-angle monocular camera and revised software.
