Genesis Expands EV Lineup With 2023 Electrified GV70

Hyundai’s luxury brand, Genesis, is expanding its EV lineup with the all-new 2023 Electrified GV70. Positioned just above the GV60 crossover, this battery-powered GV70 is more like a real SUV.

It shares obvious design cues with other Genesis products including signature two-line headlights and taillights plus a G-Matrix front grille. The rear bumper is unique to the electrified model, just like the available 19- and 20-inch wheels.

Driver-Centric Layout

Inside, all the controls and displays are oriented toward the driver. Similar to the conventional GV70, the cabin is full of subtle design touches that enhance comfort and luxury.

Elegant topstitching can be found on the dashboard, steering wheel and centre console, while mood lights in the door panels and around the HVAC system jazz up the atmosphere. Genesis is also introducing an eco-friendly material using yarn made by processing recycled plastic bottles and waste nets.

AWD Powertrain

The 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 features a dual-motor AWD powertrain generating a combined 429 horsepower and 446 pound-feet of torque. If you press the Boost button on the steering wheel, it will momentarily deliver up to 483 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque.

The 77.4kWh battery is the same that feeds the GV60, but range has not been disclosed yet. Given the powertrain, it should be around 380 kilometres. In fact, the model we sat in read 384 km.

What about charging? Genesis claims the battery can go from 10-80 percent charge in 18 minutes when plugged into a 350kW DC fast charger. Expect the same operation to take 73 minutes with a 50kW charger. In the case of Level 2 (240V) charging, the battery can be topped in about seven hours.

Two-way charging, or Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, is included here, allowing the Electrified GV70 to charge other EVs or various appliances and power devices when necessary.

Sophisticated Technology

This is the first electric model from Genesis to be equipped with an E-Terrain system that adds Snow, Mud and Sand modes to the existing drive modes. It also comes standard with an electronically controlled suspension.

The AWD system’s dynamic torque-vectoring capability ensures each wheel gets the appropriate amount of torque based on road and driving conditions in real time (using braking and motor driving force).

In order to make the interior as quiet as possible, Genesis incorporated sound absorption into the design process and developed a technology called Active Noise Control–Road (ANC-R).

Unsurprisingly, there’s a myriad of active safety and driver assistance features as standard, including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keep Assist & Following Assist, Blind Spot View Monitor and Highway Driving Assist.

The 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 will be sold in three different trim levels. Further details including pricing and on-sale date will be announced later.
